Will Meditation Slow Down The Speed Of My Life?

Meditation can help slow down the pace of your life

Does meditation slow down time? Meditation gives you the feeling that time has stopped rushing by and taking you with it, leaving you with the sense that you are not running out of control. Time is illusory by nature and we can experience that first hand when we either slip into a daydream and we feel like we have not been present for hours and it has been minutes. Or when we find ourselves in a position where we have nothing to do and have nothing too much on our mind and time seems to drag on forever and ever.

It is Not Only Meditation That Can Slow Down Time

A bit like waiting in the Doctors surgery with only dodgy magazines to read. We experience time as a perception, and this can be tainted with how we are feeling at the time. When we immerse our consciousness into something, time can fly. Meditation can slow down what you may perceive to be a fast life, because it is stopping all the outside influences and focusing on the inside.

This can change everything. The way we perceive everyday life and its everyday problems can look completely different when we look at them from a different perspective. I used to look at problems and was taught to take them head on. Now I see a different way of looking at problems, and they are more like challenges and hurdles to get over.

Meditation Can Slow Down Those Busy Thoughts

Psychology Today estimates that the average person has 25,000-50,000 thoughts per day. That is a tremendous amount of activity for your mind. Do you feel like this could be why time is feeling like it is running away with us? We are being bombarded by the media and the Internet, with all the social media distractions, and is this playing a part in making us feel like our lives are hectic and out of control. I personally would say most people seem not to be in that state, but they perceive it.

How many times have I heard people say they are too busy to do this, and too busy to do that, but not think twice about getting onto Face Book or Instagram and scrolling across the feeds for hours. That has never made sense to me. Now I hear many people laughing at the expression ‘I’m too busy to do that!’, and then rushing off. I hear people laughing and asking where are they rushing too? I would dare to suggest ‘Nowhere, fast!’

It Used To Be Cool To Be Super Busy

It seems like the meme back in the 1980’s was to be super busy, with more than a full Filofax, trying to squeeze every ounce of life they can in order to be looking like they are going somewhere. I have never been envious of someone like that. I lean more towards someone saying ‘I haven’t much on at the moment’. That seems to appeal to me more, as there is so much more scope for creativity and invention. Meditation can give you your time back, by slowing down your perception of time, and giving you the opportunity to tap into your infinite potential. Now that is something I like the sound of.
