Walking The Path Of Serenity
Should we all be walking the path of serenity? Let’s take a look. I had a very interesting experience at the Kingston Carnival this year. And it was an experience that I would have reacted really badly to in the past. But I have changed so much. It is quite incredible to feel this inside.
The Kingston Carnival was really put together at the last minute this year for many reasons. It has not been running for a few years due to lockdown. It has been hard to get the wheels back into motion because there are many elements to organising such a large event.
I was asked to do a short Ki Gong demonstration on the community stage and perform a half hour set on the mainstage. I prepared for this the day before because I only had very short notice that I would be involved.
Keeping Your Grace When Disappointed
When I turned up to my first performance on the community stage, I was not on the line up. I remained calm and asked who had changed the list, and no one had an idea as there was just a stage manager there and the stage hands, and the presenter. Then I said I was due to go on and could they squeeze me in as I was only doing a very short presentation.
I know the people running the stage and so they did after a couple of acts. It was so synchronistic really as it turned out. Before me was some Bollywood dancers representing India, and the Kingston Chinese Association performing a beautiful traditional dance. And then came me.
It was lovely as I could share my research on how the knowledge of the Vedas travelled to the far east, and what an impact these two great philosphies have had on my life. I then went onto do some very simple mind body breath exercises. And from children of 10 to grand mothers of 80, they were all joining in, and realising their mind body connection needs improving.
It was amazing fun and I really did connect with the crowd. I hadn’t done that for a while, and I was told I was even more confident than when I did this kind of thing before lockdown. This is because I have been doing lots of hard work on myself and my coaching programme, and it has obviously paid off.
Still Keeping With Serenity
I then went onto the main stage and asked about my spot. Apparently, I was not on the list for this stage either. I asked if there were any other stages to the carnival and I was sent over to another stage. I then spoke to one of the volunteers who contacted the organisers and they were trying to get me on one of the stages. This didn’t happen.
If this had been 20 odd years ago, I would have blown a gasket, screamed at the top of my lungs at someone who had nothing to do with the organising, and stormed off in a big cloud. I did none of this. In fact, while speaking with the stage hands and stage managers explaining my predicament, I made new friends and contacts for further events.
I also realised deep down inside the slight anger inside of me that came and went very quickly. I noticed the disappointment of not playing live. And the annoyance for the lack of respect for my time. I showed none of this to anyone and remained calm and peaceful throughout this whole sequence of events.
When I met Master Kim on the Sundo retreat I attended in Romania, I was really impressed by his calm and peaceful presence. He was the real deal when it came to someone calling themselves a Tao master. Since meeting him, my intention for myself was to become more like that. I feel I have made great headway in that direction with the sequence of unfortunate events that unfolded before me.
This Will Never Happen Again
What I am going to do in the future is ensure that this will never happen to me again, as I will be more active at confirming my spots. I will also remain friends with everyone involved and track down who actually removed me from the lists. I will not look for revenge or retribution, but be very wary of anything like this in the future.
Learning to walk the path of serentity is not easy. But I realised this on carnival day profoundly. Anger only hurts you. Revenge also hurts you. Bitterness only hurts you. Resentment only hurts you. Bad temperament only hurt you. When you free yourself from all of these negative traits you become more free. I thought it was a material kind of freedom I wanted, but now I am understanding it is a freedom from the psycological effects our five sense living thrusts onto us.
I put my changes down to my Ki Gong practice and the Dream Method I created to help people walk the way of serenity. If you stick to your recognisable past, you will have an expected future. Nothing new will come to you. From not playing the same scenario I would have done from my previous self, many more opportunities are going to come my way.
Set your intentions today and walk the line. Feel the resistance inside of you and work on it. Overcoming ourselves stopping us becoming our best version is so important. Change your energy everyday with an energy based exersise practice like Ki Gong. Keep looking forward to what you want in your life. Stick to this, and you won’t go far wrong.
Do You Need Help In Walking Your Path Of Serenity?
As I mentioned earlier, I needed help with my path to serenity. Maybe you do too? There is no shame in that. It is one of the reasons I have created the Dream Method.
The Dream Method
The Dream Method is a one to one coaching and online course to repair emotional childhood wounds, soothe anxiety and alleviate depression. When we react to life rather than respond, it us usually coming from our present condition. This takes us away from our path of serentity. Until the next post,
Be well and keep shining.
