Are You Suffering From Emotional Exhaustion?
Emotional exhaustion. It happens to the best of us. But what is it? And how can we cope better with it? We are going to take a look at emotional exhaustion and share ways to help you through what can be a very tough time. First lets look into what exactly emotional exhaustion is.
What Is Emotional Exhaustion?
Emotional exhaustion is when we become overwhelmed with emotions, especially what we perceive to be bad ones, and we start to feel overwhelmed and numb. We can also start to feel bored and worried about the future. These feelings can come to you in a relationship, a friendship or just with the every day meetings you have with people. You can also start to feel unworthy and that there is something wrong with you. This is particularly the case if you are highly sensitive, an empath or an intuitive.
When this condition is left unchecked, you can start to feel angry and annoyed. But being highly sensitive, this can be buried so you initially start to feel frustrated, doubtful of your abilities to cope, and even fearful. This can lead to feelings of anxiety as well. And when this is left, you fall into what I call the ‘Numbness Trance’. This will mean you are feeling dull, tired and even confused with what to do with your life. This will drain you of your energy, which will make you feel exhausted. This is because it takes so much energy to be in this state.
Highly Sensitives, Empaths And Intuitives Really Feel This
If you are highly sensitive, and empath or an intuitive you can really feel this. You tend to be more sensitive than other people. This leads to your heart energy, your heart chakra going in and out like a concertina. This is because you have a natural urge to be compassionate and show empathy to everyone. Left unchecked, this becomes exhausting and will lead you to the numbness trance state.
There are ways of dealing with this energy flow, which I will get to later on in this article. But I do understand this being highly sensitive myself and suffering from a heart chakra that was going in and out constantly. It almost led to a breakdown for me.
Negative Emotions And Feelings
We have all had our fare share of negative emotions and negative feelings. And these are really the root cause of emotional exhaustion. When we are feeling positive, upbeat or focused on a particular task, we can avoid the condition. It is in my Qi Gong class where I keep telling my students ‘Where your mind goes your energy follows.’ As a human being, you can get caught up with the drama of every day life. It is important to be diligent, but not to be sucked into things that don’t serve you.
In the Tao philosophy, you learn to walk the middle way or path. This is learning to be discerning. It is not about shutting out your emotions and feelings. That is not a good thing to bury them. But to explore them from a neutral perspective. This makes life so much easier for you when you do this.
What Are The Signals That You Are Emotionally Exhausted?
Here are some of the major signs of being emotionally exhausted. This is by no means an extensive list but you will see very quickly if you are suffering from this condition.
Tired all the time
Feeling tired and heavy all the time is a sign your are emotionally exhausted. In todays world, we have so much information coming into the head. We have the energy body of an upside down pyramid. We are bombarded 24/7 with information. Also your gut and your brain are continually sending information up to the head. When our energy is not working properly in the body. You will feel tired all the time. It could be mental and it could be physical. You can learn what this is with the practise of Qi Gong.
Losing interest in everyday life
Your everyday life becomes a chore and you get bored easily. You have no motivation or will power to change your life and you get stuck in a rut. This drives you towards feeling numb and living life in autopilot. This is no way to experience this amazing thing called life.
Agitated and restless
Your relationships start to crumble as you become more and more agitated and restless. You tolerance starts to wain because you do not have the insight, vision and wisdom to deal with your relationships. Let this carry on and your relationships start to crumble.
Insecurity raises its ugly head
You start to feel insecure about yourself and your place in this world. You begin to feel overwhelmed, incapable and unworthy. This leads to isolation and feelings of being totally alone. You become more frustrated with everything. Additionally, you start to feel like you are burnt out.
What Can I Do About Emotional Exhaustion?
There are a million and one meditation apps and techniques out there on the Internet. Finding the one that suits you can be really hard. But meditation and mindfulness will help you take back control of your life and take back control of your emotional exhaustion. I found Qi Gong particularly helpful to me to overcome this.
