What Is Self Realisation?
Self realisation is rather like Dr Bach of the famous flower remedies described it. It is like peeling an onion. Or the Tao philosophy talks about polishing a diamond. Islam talks about polishing the mirror. The original Christians who were Gnostics called it lighting the Christ spark from within. Even in Jainism, they talk about cleansing the small particles of Karma that gather around you that hinder you being your authentic self. Basically it means you living without pre conceptions or conditionings. It is all about you being the best version of yourself you can be without hindrance.
With all the distractions of the modern materialistic world we live in today, this has made so many people unhappy. The stress and anxiety and the pressure from the meme we have all been born into is tremendous. Human beings do not function well in these conditions. That is why there is so much depression, stress and anxiety with most of us today. This takes you away from your true essence. Your true self. You no longer feel connected with your inner you. Your mind and body have a yearning to be together naturally, and this causes inner conflict of because of your wandering mind. Basically, you do not feel whole and complete.
Self Realisation Guides You To Feeling Whole And Complete

Self realisation is all about you understanding you at a deeper level. It is the intuitive understanding of self. You go through this by taking an inner journey of self discovery. This discovery process can be both good and bad. But it can also lead you to your untapped potential you have inside you. This has now been embraced in the Western World. Our Eastern Ancestors have been teaching self realisation for thousands of years. And it stems from Sackshi Bav. This means witness mentality. And this led to the hermetic principle of ‘Everything is mental’. That is our experience of this five sense reality is driven by the mind.
The process of self realisation can be very subtle. Unless you journal when working on yourself, you can miss the subtle changes inside of you when they happen. At the Bright Beings Academy, we always encourage people to journal when they show up to support calls or coaching calls, so they remember what has happened to them. We all live such busy lives, it is easy to forget. Journaling will help you be diligent as you go through these changes.
Spiritual Realisations Can Be From An Early Age

I remember when I was acting up as a young boy in a hospital. My mother had just died and my father had become disabled. I was very angry and full of victim consciousness. I heard my family speaking with a Doctor in the next room. They were discussing what they were going to do with me. In that moment, I bypassed all the anger, all the hurt and upset, and even the sense of being a victim and felt this peace and tranquillity inside.
I knew then that I had a choice to either react from the emotions, feelings and experiences I had or from this new place of peace I had found inside of me. I chose to come from the place of peace. And what could have ended up as a terrible situation for me, was ok in the end. The choice of coming from my true self stopped me getting into further trouble.
The spiritual teachers of the world have talked about this inner peace and tranquillity for thousands of years. And when you find it through work and practise, it is worth it. But like all the teachers say, you have to do the work. And there are many obstacles in your way. This includes your ego, your sense of self, and all the unhealed energy stored in your subconscious. All these aspects that are attached to you stop the process of self realisation.
Breaking From Earthly Ties
Self realisation helps you break from earthly ties. We are conditioned to be consumers on earth. That enticement starts from an early age. It can be as simple as watching your favourite footballer wearing a pair of branded training shoes. This creates longing in the child to own those shoes. This is an illusory world we find ourselves being invited into from a very early age. Then when you grow up, you want the better job so you can have the better house and better car and so on. This leads to the materialistic unhappiness I talked about earlier. Breaking from these earthly ties helps you connect with your internal you. Your true self.
And the more you can do this, the more you begin to realise that you need to be self responsible for your own happiness. Happiness actually comes from within. It does not come from some object of desire or even another human being. When you see the people who have become self realised, you seen them as calm, peaceful and passionate about life. When you realise this is all part of your journey, you begin to gain a toughness to get through the dark night of the souls you experience, and embrace the joy inside of you when good things happen to you.
Seven Words To Lead You To Self Realisation
At the Bright Beings Academy, we use seven words to describe our top values. These are important to everyone who is working for the Academy. These are –
- Integrity
- Diligence
- Self Responsibility
- Grace
- Trust
- Fun
- Acceptance
Always act with integrity and diligence. Be self responsible for your your words and actions and any outcome that they may present. Always keep your grace at all times, even when the going gets tough. Learn to trust your intuition and trust the intuition of others. Don’t forget to have fun because self realisation work can get heavy at times. And accept other peoples opinions and thoughts even though they may challenge you. Sometimes it is in the challenge and the grey areas that the magic comes from. Sometimes the best things come out of a troubled experience.
FAQ’s On Self Realisation
Self realisation is a process you go through to get to know and understand your inner you. Your true self or essence.
It is a little like having a treasure map inside of you and not bothering to look for the treasure. The answers are all inside of you. And if you care to you will find them. It is so important because the treasures inside of you will help you find the best version of yourself.
Self realisation is an ongoing process. Some call it steps to enlightenment. And if you stop the journey early, this can lead to disappointment. But if you persevere, there are wonders for you to find about you and the universe you live in.
Getting a good mind body spirit connection is so important here. We live such busy lives, our mind is constantly on the go. This is one of the biggest distractions if you want to go down the path of self realisation. A good energy practise that resonates with you would be a good start.
What Can I Expect With Self Realisation?
You live with honesty and integrity. Also you begin to trust yourself. Imagine seeing a situation for what it is without judgements or pre conceptions. This helps you to see things objectively. You become more determined and diligent with your life and work. And you become charismatic and find it easy to inspire others. You will get to know your priorities on life and will achieve your goals much more easily.
What Has Self Realisation Done For Me?
I can best describe this as the Bright Beings Academy Vision Statement. Here is is.
Bright Beings Academy Vision Statement
We envisage a diverse global community of people who have connected to their inner wisdom, vision and intuition and who are willing to collaborate towards a balanced and productive world of abundance. To embrace systems that serve humanity and encourage the insight and courage to let go of any systems that do not. Allow space to express their multi-facetted and multi-dimensional experience which is aligned to their personal profound purpose coherently. Inspire everyone to move away from self-harm and self-doubt to self-healing and self-realisation.
Our vision statement says we want to live in a world that is connected. We can achieve this when we all ignite our inner wisdom, vision and intuition. When you embark on the path of self realisation, life becomes more harmonious, peaceful and fun.
Do You Need Help With Your Journey Of Self Realisation?
As stated earlier, the journey of self realisation can be hard at times. And I am certainly glad for my mentors who helped me come through what was some very difficult times. I realise it can be hard to put your hand up and ask for help in todays world. All I can say to that is that I am so please that I did. Because when I did, it took me on a wonderful world of self discovery. And having compassionate and understanding mentors, I was allowed to experience the failings for myself. And this helped me have great joy in the successes that came afterwards.
